The square bottle also provides for an approximate 30% savings in space in your pantry as well, the wide neck makes pouring and measuring easier than pouring from a bag or box and is much more attractive!

PET throwaway containers are made of a product that is hygroscopic which means that it absorbs water/moisture from the air making the products stored inside open to degradation, mould, and the probability of becoming soggy and therefore not desirable.

Smartbottle™ is made of a medical grade clarified random copolymer polypropylene which is hydrophobic which means that the material has a 35 times better moisture barrier/resistance to the ingress of atmospheric humidity as well as the same barrier to the moisture that is contained in the actual food product inside the container compared to the throwaway PET container.

In experiments, for example with Parmesan cheese, 500g of Parmesan cheese were placed in the same container size, one in PET, the other in Enviroclear® Smartbottle™ material.

The weight of both containers was taken every month for 18 months. The initial 500g of Parmesan cheese that was put in the PET container weighed approximately 515g as it picked up moisture and the parmesan cheese was slightly soggy and lumpy, and there was a change in taste, smell, and traces of mold forming after 18 months, whereas the weight of the Parmesan cheese in the Enviroclear® Smartbottle™ Container weighed 499.5g . The cheese tasted and smelled indistinguishable from the starting date.

The physical properties of the Parmesan cheese in the PET container were, that the cheese got lumpy and soggy, while the physical properties of the Parmesan cheese in the Enviroclear® Smartbottle™ Container were virtually the same as the day that the container was filled, pourable and powdery!

The moisture loss in the PET container was indicative of the fact that the container did not stop the moisture in the cheese from escaping through the walls of the container, whereas the exact opposite occurred with the Enviroclear® Smartbottle™ container preserving the freshness of the cheese for 18 months.

The same principle would apply to any dry product stored in an Enviroclear® Smartbottle™.
